These knotless nylon nets are excellent for capturing minnows and other small fish in lakes, streams or ponds. The top of the net has floats every foot and the bottom has #9 lead weights every foot to hold the seine in an upright position. The nets are tied to poles at each end by the attached nylon cord. An optional pocket (Pocket Seine) better holds the fish.
Teamwork is necessary to get a good catch. Two people use the poles to hold the net across the body of water while others downstream chase the fish into the net. The netting is loose enough so the current causes it to billow downstream. This helps to catch even more fish.
A 10’ wide net is usually sufficient for most streams. (For lakes and ponds, we recommend a 20 to 30’ wide seine.) Sometimes two nets are needed to extend across the stream. Once the nets are in place, they should be held flush on the stream bottom at an angle of about 135° to the bottom. (As a rule of thumb, a 4’ net will sample 3’ of water.)
All nets have 3/16” mesh and your choice of 4’ or 6’ height. They come in 10’, 20’ and 30’ widths.
Requires 1-1/4” diameter poles (not included).
