Beta™ Vertical Bottles

Larger bottles are good for collecting small plankton. The wide-open mouth collects a true water sample with no contamination from other water levels. Water flow is not restricted during descent - desirable for collecting plankton, floating sediments and for metallic ion avoidance. Your choice of transparent acrylic or more durable opaque PVC. Designed for trace metal sampling. Also may be used for organic sampling to concentrations of mg/L. When running metal, organic, or any other chemical analyses, it is best to run a blank on the sampler prior to use. This sampler requires a messenger and line (not included, except in kits) for operation, and is not suitable for series sampling. A thermometer can be mounted inside acrylic Beta™ bottles.

Alpha™ and Beta™ Differences
These bottles are very similar in use and appearance. Both are Van Dorn samplers that come in the same sizes and in PVC and transparent acrylic. The differences are in the end seals and latex closing tubing. These differences are enough, however, to make the Beta™ better suited to sampling trace metals and other chemical sampling.

The blue polyurethane seal used in Alpha™ bottles may leach some mercury. However, it is durable and long-lived. The white ASA plastic seal used in Beta™ bottles does not leach mercury, but it is not as durable.

The Alpha™ black latex tubing is highly resistant to decay from sunlight and water. However, it may leach a very few heavy metals. The Beta™ amber latex tubing

• Large volume - from 2.2 to 8.2 liters
• No metal parts to touch your sample
• Kits include bottle, plastic carry case, 45-B10 messenger & 62-C15 line (100 ft.)
• Bottles & bottles with cases also available

Use in mildly corrosive waters, in marine waters and in water with large amounts of suspended solids or adhesive colloidal solids. Larger bottles are good for collecting small plankton. An oceanographic or limnological thermometer can be mounted inside acrylic Beta™ bottles. Not intended for series sampling.
