AMS Retract-A-Tip
The AMS Retract-A-Tip is a survey tool for the collection of discrete soil vapor samples below the ground surface, usually at discrete depths. The sampler is made from 300 series stainless steel with a 400 series stainless steel drive tip. It may be driven to the sampling point using an AMS slide hammer or electric rotary hammer and AMS gas vapor probe (GVP) extensions with an extension drive adapter. The Retract-A-Tip is usually connected to the surface with fluoroploymer tubing.
Excellent for monitoring and sampling hydrocarbon spill sites, underground storage tanks and pipelines!
The sampler is opened by retracting the GVP extension string an inch or so. When open, the sampling ports – protected by a mesh screen – are exposed. A vacuum applied at the surface to the fluoroploymer tube will allow recovery of soil gas or groundwater samples. After sample collection, the sampler may be closed by pushing down on the drive string. The sampler may then be driven to the next discrete sampling point and another sample collected.
The Retract-A-Tip may also be used for the collection of shallow groundwater samples less than 25' from the surface. Connect a water trap to the sample delivery tube and apply a vacuum to the other side of the trap.
Gas detection instruments, PID's, FID's with a positive displacement sampling pump may be connected to the AMS Retract-A-Tip sample tube to obtain a direct reading of the contaminant levels.
