Our general purpose spill kits predominantly use Sphagnum Peat Moss as the absorbent material which is an industry proven absorbent, mined right here in New Zealand.  The peat moss is heat treated using a specialised air drying process to lower the moisture content of the product to around 10-15%. This process is done at extremely high temperatures which causes the fibre’s water retention features to change so that the cellular structure becomes singularly hydrophobic (water resistant) and has a natural affinity to absorbing and encapsulating hydrocarbons and a wide range of other chemicals.

Sphagnum Peat Moss is used because of the benefits it offers, including: 100% natural and mined in New Zealand; absorbs hydrocarbons and a wide range of other solvents and chemicals on land and   water; does not require specialised training or high-tech equipment for handling or disposing; will not leak, leach or discharge used pollutant making it clean and easy to handle; Can be incinerated or disposed of in landfills (check with your local authorities for advice) with no detrimental effects to the environment; and weighs little and affords users the ability to carry more, clean up more and save on transportation and disposal costs.
